Laboratory Operations Manager

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the lab testing schedule, and all schedule change requests from the YDFM business, and ensuring internal and external stakeholders are informed accordingly and that sufficient, relevantly qualified staff are scheduled on-shift to support testing operations
  • Ensuring any laboratory work is completed in line with the company’s QMS and to any applicable standards including 15189 and 22870.
  • Working with Senior Management and the building landlord to ensure that facilities, building services, building fabric, waste management and cleaning are meeting requirements and, where relevant, maintained in working order and to suit the ongoing testing operations
  • Working closely with Operations and Sales Managers to respond to requests for testing services from their sites, and share information to them and the Central Data Team to ensure smooth running of testing operations
  • Working closely with the Lab Supervisors, and with the support of the Lab Technicians, monitoring and managing the stock readiness across client sites, to ensure that all stock levels are maintained at their minimum stocking level and that no shortages occur
  • Acting as the escalation pathway for lab staff on site in order to provide quick resolution to all non-technical issues and incidents
  • Working with the YDFM business to manage the workloads and plan operational service levels accordingly
  • Highlighting any potential risk situation within operational delivery cycle to all stakeholders
  • Producing a weekly roll up report providing an overview of the Lab Status, including the highlighting of any risk and issues associated with the operation of the lab
  • Contributing, in consultation with the Lab Supervisor, to the maintenance of a lab facility that meets the required standards, especially in relation to cleanliness, assurance of supply chains, scheduling of staff to deliver test operations, suitability of facilities, and building condition
  • Deal with all relevant stakeholders in the lab environment as well as resolution of disputes, and queries
  • Liaising with the Quality Lead to complete audits, EQA scheme participation, monitoring of IQC etc

Experience & skills:

  • Experience in Facilitating the set-up, installation and decommissioning of laboratories
  • Previous experience of managing PCR laboratories
  • Previous experience of working within a 15189/22870 accredited laboratory
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing laboratory operations
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Health & Safety standards
  • Strong customer facing operations / customer service skills
  • Comfortable working at pace and with a degree of ambiguity
  • Experience of customer conflict resolution
  • Excellent communication skills and an empathetic nature
  • Strong interpersonal skills, builds trusted relationships quickly
  • Organised with a strong bias for action. Problem solver

  • Comfortable with using MS Office suite or able to learn quickly (Word, Outlook, Excel, PPT, Teams)
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting to a range of stakeholders
